Laura Winfree

Laura first came to Cancun at 19 to study tourism at university. More than ten years later, she has turned her passion for the area into a career as a travel writer, specializing in Cancun, Riviera Maya and Yucatan. She lives in Downtown Cancun with her husband, her son and her three dogs. On weekends, they love to explore the city or pack their overnight bags to visit the beaches and towns beyond.

Top travel memory: “Birds, sunsets, beaches, the soft sway of a yellow hammock beneath the palm trees… Memories of a romantic weekend on the island of Holbox always make me smile. My husband and I took the bus from Cancun one Saturday, then a ferry, then a golf cart to our little beach hotel. We spent the next 24 hours in complete relaxation, strolling through the tiny town, lounging on the beach all afternoon, viewing the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico and looking up at the stars and the palm trees from a hammock on our balcony. My most pressing travel wish is to return to Holbox someday soon.”
