Getting there

Airlines & airports: Rome’s airports are Leonardo da Vinci in Fiumicino, 18km south-west of the centre, and the smaller Ciampino, 15km south-east

Transfers: Taxis from Fiumicino to inside the Aurelian walls is a fixed price of 48€. From Ciampino, 30€. There are bus services from Ciampino to the centre for about 5€, the Leonardo Express runs between Fiumicino airport and Termini rail station every 30 minutes for 14€ (running from 6.23am to 23.23pm to the airport), or you can research car rental options here

Getting around

Public transport: Rome’s system covers a lot of ground. Most of the centre is walkable, but to explore farther, buy a BIT ticket for 1.50€, valid for 90 minutes of travel on bus, metro or tram, from metro stations or Tabacchi stores. Look for a sign with a big T

Cabs: Metered white taxis are available at stands or by calling +39 06 06 09; look for a TAXI sign on the roof and a SPQR symbol on the door. Otherwise, Uber operates here too
